Spain: Andalucia, Madrid and Barcelona

Sights and Soul Travels

The image of Spain is one of color, romance, passion, and the lone figure of the matador in the bull ring, cape and sword in hand beneath the burning afternoon sun. The Sights and Soul's journey through Spain explores the many aspects of this enchanted and diverse land, its history, culture and cuisines. It incorporates an in-depth exploration of SevilleCordoba and Granada with the Alhambra, while staying on Costa del Sol in southern Andalucia, then it includes touring Madrid and Toledo in central Castilla-La Mancha, followed by the beautiful city of Barcelona in eastern Catalonia, with excursions to MontserratGirona and Costa Brava.

The Camino de Santiago is an internationally renowned walking trail with many route options. Our chosen route covers the final 114 kilometres of the French Way through the delightful Galician hills from the lovely town of Sarria westwards to the city of Santiago de Compostela an its imposing cathedral. On the Camino de Santiago

Adventures in Good Company

The Road of St James (El Camino de Santiago) has many traditions. In addition to being a pilgrimage route for Christians wanting to visit the tomb of St James, many experts believe that pre-Christian people traveled it into the setting sun to the "end of the earth". There are also Celtic traditions, Goddess traditions, even traditions having to do with the lost city of Atlantis. This intertwining of traditions is one of the most interesting aspects of the Road: there is something there for almost everyone, but not always what people expect at the outset of their journey.

Southern Spain Villa Getaway

Todays Woman Traveller

Including Madrid, Seville, Cadiz and Cordoba: Many centuries ago, the Moors (a mix of Berbers & Arabs) crossed into Spain and settled in the southern area - which they called 'al Andalus' . A region of contrasts, Andalucía showcases a myriad mix of ancient historical influences, and today the Moorish influence is evident in the many beautiful monuments that remain. This region is also the birthplace of flamenco.

Camino de Santiago to the Sea

Adventures in Good Company

The official Camino does end at Santiago Cathedral, site of St. James’ tomb. But other traditions tell of a pre-Christian route to Finisterre, the End of the Earth, once considered the westernmost point in Europe. Perhaps those long-ago people travelled just for adventure, a desire to experience that special place.
